fire & earth Elliott Court SCAR WORK

What is scar work?

Scar Work is a light touch therapy aimed at improving the function, restriction, and side effects of scar tissue, new and old.

Scar tissue can limit range of movement at joints, surrounding tissues and globally around the body depending on the depth, management and the tissues involved.

This therapy can aid in improving sensory loss following tissue damage, improve the motion, strength and elasticity of tissue as well as improve the texture, look and colour of some scars.

What can I expect?

Scar Work is generally very mild, and it is very rare that any technique should be painful. In other words, there may be a mild sensation with no pain as the motion is very light, relaxed, and easy. It is common for some clients to feel a release of emotions or physical sensations during a Scar Work session. This is very normal.

Post session due to tissues being worked on, there may be some reddening of the scar tissue and should be expected. This will settle shortly. At no point should this therapy become painful, as only light touch is utilised however some movements can be powerful. Please inform your therapist if you need a break or feel uncomfortable at any point.

It is recommended that following Scar Work, tissues continue to adapt and change over a period of a few weeks. To ensure the effects following a session are long lasting, it is recommended to reduce very physically demanding tasks where possible during this time.

Multiple caesarean sections
8 years ago – Two sessions
"After having 3 caesarean sections in short succession and suffering with major internal adhesions (according to two surgeons) I have battled with digestive problems, lack of bowel movements alongside having a prominent pouch, Georgina suggested some scar tissue therapy. Having seen Georgina previously for other injuries I trusted her instinct. After two sessions, four weeks apart, I cannot believe the difference. The therapy was almost gentle strokes and caused no discomfort but has been so powerful; it is as if it has unknotted the area. I’m less bloated (down two belt holes) and my bowel movements are more regular than they have been since I had my first child (8 years ago). I would recommend this to anyone who has had surgery and wants to see an improvement in movement, soften the scars appearance or regain feeling.”
Partial knee replacement
18 months ago – Two sessions
"I’m a 58-year-old male with the condition Ankylosing Spondylitis (more commonly known as AS). Georgina has been treating me for this condition for the last four years with amazing results. I’ve also had a serious knee infection in an already right full knee replacement. When Georgina told me she’d passed a course on scar work, I jumped at the chance to get work done on a rather unsightly scar. Georgina’s kind caring nature, professionalism, real enthusiasm, and passion for her job also she has the qualifications that makes her excellent therapist as well. So far, the results are fantastic, knee is less restricted, less painful and where it’s been opened, she’s managed to manipulate scar tissue back into the cut indentation making it a little less visible. In summary there is no one I would trust with my treatment other than Georgina.”
Skin graft across skull
15 years ago – Two sessions
"Throughout my scar therapy journey with Georgina, I’ve witnessed profound changes in not just the appearance, but also the texture and movement of my skin. Despite facing challenges such as restrictions in movement and changes in skin texture, Georgina’s expertise and innovative approach have been instrumental in overcoming these hurdles. As a result, I’ve experienced significant improvements. Her unwavering support and dedication have transformed not just my scars, but my entire perspective on healing and self-acceptance."

Keyhole surgery
4 months ago – Two sessions
"Georgina performed Scar Work on some scars on my leg/ankle and I’m so pleased with the treatment. The therapy itself is extremely light touch and the results are almost immediate. I have noticed that some scars are lighter and flatter which is amazing after only a few weeks."
Lower back surgery and leg fracture 1 year ago
One session
“Over the past 12 months I have had multiple surgeries due to fractures on both knees and a break on my lower vertebrae, on which has caused me significant pain on which Georgina has been helping me overcome this, Georgina came to me about a technique that she was training in and that it may help me especially with my pain. Georgina gave me a detailed explanation on what scar tissue massage can do and that this has helped others, I was very excited about this. My first session was on my back where I had surgery last January and this particular surgery and the aftermath was causing me the most pain. Even though the scar was still a little tender Georgina used delicate pressure on my skin. She kept asking me if I was ok and kept reassuring me which made the process very calming and enjoyable. After the session I felt amazing!

It made me feel like I was in a new body and the day after I had so much energy. Georgina then wanted to work on my right thigh where I had surgery last December and with this process I could see and feel the work that Georgina was doing. The surgery scar was still tender and sore to the touch but again Georgina only used delicate pressure to ensure I wasn’t in pain. She then asked me to feel my scar which was so different and felt so different but in a good way like I was in a new skin. Georgina took pictures of my back surgery scar and you can see the difference from the before to after in only a few sessions. You can see the work and the technique and how Georgina has manipulated the scar back to health.
This amazing technique has given me a new outcome to life, and it has not only helped me physically but also mentally. Not only myself but my family has noticed a big difference in my persona, and I will be forever grateful to Georgina, forever grateful.”
