There’s an unspoken anxiety that a lot of people bring through the door with them, alongside the tight shoulders and the aching back. It goes something like: am I supposed to talk? Is it weird to stay quiet? Will it be awkward if I just….don’t….say….anything!?

Consider this your permission slip. Whatever you need from your session - conversation, silence, or something in between – is completely fine!

It’s your time

Your massage at Fire & Earth Elliott Court is exactly that: yours. Some clients love the chance to have a chat, catch up on how their training is going or talk through what's been bothering them. Others arrive needing the hour to be genuinely quiet - a rare pocket of stillness in an otherwise relentless week. Both are equally welcome and we’re pretty good at reading which is which.

There's no expectation to fill the silence. If you want to close your eyes the moment you're on the table and not open them until it's over, that's a perfectly legitimate way to spend your appointment.

When we will speak

There are a few moments where we'll need to check in with you — and these matter, so it's worth knowing what to expect.

At the start of your session, we'll talk through what you'd like to focus on and what we're going to do. During treatment, we might ask about pressure whether it's enough, too much, or landing in exactly the right spot. Occasionally we'll need to reposition you to work more effectively or reach a particular area. And if something doesn't feel right at any point, please do say so.

Beyond that, the session is yours to use as you need. Our treatments at Elliott Court are tailored to each client individually which means we're focused on what's happening in your body, not making small talk for the sake of it.

And one more thing…

You don’t have to be ‘sporty’ to land at Fire & Earth. Sports massage isn't just for athletes and it doesn't have to feel intense or clinical. Plenty of our clients come in not because they've overdone it at the gym but because they've overdone it at a desk. Or because they're carrying tension they can't quite shake. Or because they just want to feel better and have an hour to themselves.

Treatments like myofascial dry cupping, for example, can feel deeply relaxing while doing genuinely therapeutic work - the kind of session where you'll likely want silence simply because you've drifted somewhere very comfortable.

In short

Talk if you want to. Don't if you don't. Your therapist won't mind either way - they'll be busy making sure you leave feeling better than when you arrived.

Book your appointment at Fire & Earth Elliott Court - we'd love to see you (quiet or otherwise)!
